CINCINNATI (AP) — A man accused of conning parents into allowing him to be alone with their children to conduct a “marketing survey” of underwear was indicted Monday on 19 criminal counts involving 11 minors.

Ben Hawkins, 44, of suburban Cincinnati was indicted on charges including kidnapping, gross sexual imposition and attempted gross sexual imposition.

He contacted parents by taking out ads in an alternative newspaper and online and by responding to ads for in-home child care, investigators said.

He would meet the families at public places such as schools and hospitals or at the children’s homes, then he would tell parents he needed to be alone with the children for research, prosecutors said.

Police said Hawkins told the children he wanted to measure their underwear and then touched them sexually.

The scam was perpetrated on boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 16 over a five-month period starting in March, prosecutors said.

A 7-month-old baby was inside of an SUV when it was stolen from the 2300 block of West Church Street just before 2 p.m. this afternoon, according to Orlando police.

The SUV, a 2006 blue, four-door Nissan Pathfinder, and the child were found about 15 minutes later in the 600 block of W. Tampa Avenue, but the suspect had fled the scene, police spokeswoman Sgt. Barbara Jones. The baby was not injured.

The baby had been left unattended in the SUV when it was stolen. Police are looking for the suspect.

This would be a pretty damned horrific thing to have happen but it begs the question, what kind of a stupid fucking idiot would leave their car idling with the baby inside? Was it in their own driveway perhaps? I’ve probably done that. Or was it in front of a business somewhere?

Judging from the Satellite view over at Google Maps it looks like a residential area so I suppose it could have been stolen out of someone’s driveway. How many times have you forgotten something and run back into the house to grab it while your car was running? With the kids in it? Shit, that’s scary…

THE SUSPECT

*White male in his early 20s to mid-30s and between 5-foot-9 and 6-foot-3
*The skin on his abdomen, groin and upper legs is noticeably lighter in color than the skin on his hands
*He is large and has a somewhat heavy build, not overly muscular
*Had medium to dark brown hair
*Had large hands with thick “meaty” fingers
*Had a mustache and goatee with a noticeable gap that had no hair between the ends of the mustache and top of the goatee
*His genital area and groin were hairless, and his skin smooth, as if he used hair removal cream
*He spoke clear, fluent English and had no accent.

THE VEHICLE
An extended cab pickup or sport-utility vehicle with a dome light above the windshield. It requires a big step to get inside.
*It has a floor-mounted skinny console that opens in front
*The LED read-out on the radio was blue and red
*The truck had cloth seats and an automatic transmission
*A baby shoe and white letter-size papers with typing were on the front floorboard.

5 p.m. Nov. 13, a 21-year-old UNR student was in her apartment complex
parking lot in the 400 block of College Drive when a man grabbed and
fondled her. He ran away after she kicked him and screamed.
About 2
a.m. Dec. 16, a 22-year-old UNR student was walking to her apartment in
the 1400 block of North Virginia Street when a man grabbed her from
behind and rendered her unconscious. She woke up inside his pickup and
was forced to commit a sexual act on him before he drove her home.
Hours
before Denison was abducted, police said they believe the same man
unsuccessfully tried to break down the 22-year-old’s apartment door.

Reno
police now say Brianna Denison’s killer walked through an unlocked back
door on Jan. 20 when he found her sleeping on her friend’s couch in a
rental home on MacKay Court. They believe he was lurking around
neighborhoods in the university area in the early morning hours,
looking for a victim and fantasizing about an attack.
Investigators
believe Denison was dead when her killer removed her from the house. He
later left her in a field with two pairs of women’s underwear.
The
suspect, who seemingly has a fetish for collecting underwear, had hours
earlier tried to break down the apartment door of his Dec. 16 victim
whom he kidnapped and sexually assaulted, police said they now believe.
And just weeks before that December assault, he tried to sexually
assault another college student.

Police have found a pair of thongs in the same field where Brianna Denison’s body was located late last week. After testing they have found DNA from two different people on the underwear, that of the unknown rapist/murderer and an unknown female.

Police don’t want to really speculate because it’s possible that the underwear are stolen or they may have belonged to a victim that has not yet come forward or can’t come forward. It’s possible that the man either inadvertently dropped the thong when he was dumping Brianna’s body, or it may be a horrible message to police that he’s committed yet another crime and the police haven’t found him.

The underwear itself was a black thong with the head of the Pink Panther on it. Police are saying that it did not belong to Brianna Denison.
