A Man walking his dog over the weekend found the skeletal remains of a human in Norcross, GA in the woods near Forest Vale Drive. Police were called to the scene and the remains were transported to the morgue to be examined. A preliminary autopsy did find them to be human but that is pretty much all of the information they are releasing at this time other than the fact that the person appeared to have been dead for several months.
Since the cause of death is still under investigation it is being investigated as a possible homicide.
While it’s been longer than just a few months back, in November of 2007 Justin Gaines went missing from Wild Bill’s, a bar which is a short distance away from where the body was found.
Justin and a friend has been partying at Wild Bill’s and his friend had already gone home for the evening. When Justin called him later on to try and get a ride home he was unable to provide it. Justin was never seen or heard from again.
Updated 12/15/09 – The remains have been identified as belonging to a female victim between 15 and 21 years of age. They are being investigated as a homicide but police have not released the cause of death.
There was clothing found with the remains that police have described in hopes of identifying the woman. They include American Eagle jeans, a light green T-shirt, a black and red Old Navy t-shirt, a fruit of the loom t-shirt, a white and red v-neck t-shirt, an orange polo style shirt, Mossimo jeans, black shorts, black sweatpants with a maroon and gold stripe, a black sports bra, a leopard print bra and black plaid boxers.
Updated 12/17/09 – The remains have been identified as 16-Year-Old Maritza Yepez, who has been missing since August 23rd.
The girl, who was living with her aunt at the time of her disappearance, was reported missing as a runaway. She was identified through her dental records.
Police are investigating her death as a homicide and suspect that she was murdered.
