45-year-old Gary Sawyer of Cincinnati, Ohio was convicted of kidnapping and rape in 2005 and has been listed a sex offender since then. At some point recently he absconded and deputies received a tip that he was no longer living in Westwood, Ohio. According to the law registered sex offenders have to notify law enforcement of any address changes.
Fortunately for law enforcement officials Sawyer’s brother, William Garner, was due to be executed and they felt they had a good chance to catch Sawyer there. Sure enough he showed up and State Trooper waited until after the execution to arrest Sawyer.
Garner received the death sentence after he killed five children in 1992 by setting fire to an apartment.
