This was sent to me by Me ToSee. I could have sworn I wrote about Dozier last year or maybe the year before but as I couldn’t find it in my archives I guess I was mistaken. I may have been researching it at the time and changed my mind for some reason.
Back in 2008 Wendell William Dozier Jr. took his daughter behind a department store in Dekalb County, Georgia and had sex with her. He was also accused of an tried for other incidents in Clayton County as well but was acquitted of those charges. Dekalb County, however, took a different view of things and convicted the man of Rape, Aggravated Sodomy, Aggravated Child Molestation, Incest and Child Molestation.
Dozier was sentenced last week to two life sentences and an additional 30 years to serve. The Dekalb County DA’s Office released the following press statement on it’s web site,
Guilty Verdict for Man Who Raped His Daughter
DeKalb County, GA – A DeKalb County jury has found Wendell William Dozier, Jr. guilty of rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation, incest and child molestation. The victim was unfortunately his own minor child.
He was sentenced last Friday to two life sentences plus 30 years.
Dozier, 36, had previously been tried in Clayton County on similar charges but was acquitted. The charges in DeKalb County were from an incident where Dozier had taken his child behind a big-box retail store in 2008 where he committed the crimes. During a trial last week Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Peter Boehm led a prosecuting team that developed a compelling case against Dozier. Boehm leads the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Crimes Against Children Unit.
Members of the prosecution team included a DeKalb County ADA who is an apprentice lawyer. Sybil Price, recently admitted to the Georgia Bar and a graduate of Emory Law School, served as second chair on the case. She is one of several young lawyers who are working in the DA’s office who have either been deferred by their law firm or working gratis to earn valuable legal experience.
Other members of the team included Investigator Boykin Jones and Victim-Witness Advocate Amy Ellis.
Although the specific incident occurred in April of 2008 Dozier wasn’t charged until June of 2009. Wendell and his father, Wendell William Dozier, are no strangers to the Dekalb County Jail. Junior was charged with pimping back in April of 2003 but it appears the charges were dropped. His father has been arrested at least eight times by Dekalb County since 1983 for charges ranging from Domestic Violence to DUI.
