21-year-old Robert Franklin Floyd of Jay, Florida was throwing a party last Friday night when four uninvited guests drove down from Brewton, Alabama (Jay is in the northwest panhandle) to crash the party.
Floyd asked them to leave and when they refused Floyd started to argue with them. One of the men allegedly pulled a handgun so Floyd ran to his truck to get his hunting rifle.
Robert Floyd told police that he heard gunshots and saw muzzle flash coming from the direction of the men’s car so he opened fire on the car as it sped off.
Floyd called police shortly after the incident and told them what had happened and in the meantime the four men had driven back to Brewton to the hospital where Getyron Lopez Benjamin (MySpace) was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound.
The other three men claim that none of them had a gun and police did not find one on them or in the car.
After being questioned Floyd was arrested and charged with Murder and Attempted Murder and is lodged without bond at the Santa Rosa County Jail.
