There is an Amber Alert up for 14-year-old Janakaye Marie Lee from Council Bluffs, Iowa. Right now just the basics and I will update this shortly as I pick up more information.
Janakaye is Caucasian with black hair (I know the picture shows blondish, I guess she’s got it dyed), blue eyes, 5’9”, 130lbs.
The suspect in her abduction? is 19-year-old Steven Keith Hecker. Steven is white, 5’9”, 165lbs with brown hair and blue eyes. He is most likely driving a black Mitsubishi Eclipse with Iowa tags 532-TLT
As I mentioned, I will add more information to the post as the evening progresses if I get any.
It doesn’t look as if Steven has logged into his MySpace since 2006. Janakaye has but there is no reason to list the link here currently. She hasn’t been on either of her profiles since December on one and it’s been a couple of years on the other. She also has herself listed as three years older so either she set up her MySpace without permission from her parents or they let her lie about her age.
2/23/10 – According to Pete Kotz what seems to have led to their disappearance is the fact that Steven had been dating Janakaye. Warrants were issued for his arrest last week on charges of Sexual Abuse, Distributing Obscene Material and Exploitation of a Minor.
When the two ran Monday he left a suicide note at his house. Police consider the man armed and dangerous but his father says that he doesn’t have any weapons and doesn’t believe Janakaye is in danger. They are believed to be in Illinois.
One thing that struck me was some of the commenters over there. One of them, a guy named George says,
There’s something somewhat romantic about them running away together. The suicide note was probably just so that they wouldn’t be chased or something. As long as he doesn’t actually kill her then I’m with him on this one.
WTF?
I left a nasty comment myself, don’t know if it will be published or not but just the fact that people think it’s OK for a 14-year-old girl to date an adult of any age shows me their depraved fucking mindset. Another one says,
Love will do crazy things to the mind! If they love each other (which they cleasrly do) let them be.
That’s just messed up.
2/26/10 – Apparently the two lovebirds were seen at Hecker’s grandparent’s home in Illinois but somehow they were tipped to the fact that police were on the way and took off. They are apparently engaged now.
