Recently allegations that Inman, Kansas Police Chief Mike Leland Akins Jr. were made that Akins was sexually abusing four children. Last month the McPherson County Sheriff contacted the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and asked them to look into the accusations being made against Chief Akins.
Akins allegedly molested his own four children, three girls and one boy all under 14, starting in December of 2008 and continuing until December 2009. He is faced with 19 counts in all including Rape, 12 counts of Aggravated Indecent Liberties, Indecent Solicitation of a Child, two counts of Battery, Lewd and Lascivious Behavior and two counts of Aggravated Indecent Solicitation of a Child. Each separate count is for a different incident. You can read more about the official complaint here.
After a month-long investigation The KBI showed up at Akins’ home Tuesday night with a warrant for his arrest. Akins refused to answer the door so they had to force their way into the house to arrest him. What, did he think he was like the 3rd little piggy and the big bad wolf would just go away?
Akins is lodged in the McPherson County jail on $250,000 bond and has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation. The Inman City Council has already appointed the only other police officer in town as the new chief.
