38-year-old Phillip Glenn Terrell spent three years as a youth minister at Emmanuel Baptist Church (now defunct). During those three years Terrell was able to insinuate himself into the lives of the tightly knit small group of churchgoers in the community, spending time with the families and acting like their friend.
Because that’s what a successful sexual predator does.
Unfortunately Terrell managed to spend at least 13 years molesting at least four children, possibly more. Fortunately, they are his last for the next fifteen.
Terrell pleaded guilty in a negotiated plea deal in Forsyth County, Georgia this week to three counts of Aggravated Child Molestation after repeatedly molesting a boy in his church group over a period of three years. He still faces charges in Hall County for molesting the victim as well as another boy.
Terrell, who waived his right to a trial by jury, was sentenced to fifteen years in jail, another fifteen on probation and he has to register as a sex offender for life. Seems like a pretty measly sentence personally. After his “trial” Terrell told the judge,
“I look back on that and realize how wrong it was. If I could do anything to take it back, I would. I took advantage of the victim’s trust and his parent’s trust. I was just being selfish.
How fucking nice. Also most likely a crock of shit.
In 2001 Terrell was a detention officer for the state regional YDC when a 12-year-old boy who was being held there overnight accused him of molestation. He was indicted for Child Molestation and Sexual Assault on a Person in Custody but unfortunately when it came to trial in 2002 the boy, who is mentally challenged, identified the wrong person in court. The judge was forced to find him Not Guilty.
During that investigation allegations that he had molested another boy in YDC between 1997 and 2000 came up as well. The boy involved in those couldn’t be found when they went to court.
How many more boys did Terrell rape when he was a jail guard at YCD? We’ll never know but we will just have to be satisfied that this sorry piece of crap was finally caught.
As I said near the top, Terrell still faces another trial in Hall County. Here’s to hoping he gets a much harder sentence and that it doesn’t run concurrently with his Forsyth County sentence.
