According to The Effingham Sheriff’s Department the two victims were molested back in the late ’90s and both of them were under 10-Years-Old at the time. At the time of the alleged crimes Heyman was a youth director for the Catholic Diocese of Savannah and he is accused of having molested at least two girls during the time he was employed by the church. He was the Director of Youth Ministries from July 1988 until he resigned in October of 1999 in order to further his post-graduate education according to the spokesperson for the Savannah Diocese.
According to the spokesperson “He did fine work during his time with us”.
Gee, haven’t heard that from the Catholic Church before, have we?
According to the report linked to just above there’s been no indication that the alleged crimes took place during his church duties.
Heyman had a bond hearing on Tuesday and he is being held without bond. The case has been bound over to Superior Court and he’s currently lodged in the Effingham County Jail.
Heyman has quite a few ardent defenders standing up for him in the comments I’ve come across on several of the articles.
Updated 12/11/09 – Four more charges have been added in the last 48 hours concerning the second underage girl. Heyman is still in the Effingham County Jail being held on no bond.
