Updated – Danielle Davis Was Strangled

The body of 19-Year-Old Brandie Danielle Davis, a student at Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro, was found today in an apartment in the Campus Crossing community by a property manager at the complex around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Today was the last day of class for Ogeechee before winter break. Preliminary reports from the GBI Crime Lab in Savannah have ruled it a homicide and say that Danielle died from being strangled.

They have estimated the time of death for the young woman to be sometime late Monday night to early Tuesday morning. While police won’t comment as to if there were signs of a struggle in the apartment the tenant who lives below said that there were loud noises coming from up above but being in a college town they didn’t think twice about it. The apartment manager went to check on Danielle after her parents called because they hadn’t heard from the woman.

Statesboro police say that they have no suspects in the murder but that they think this is an isolated incident and that Danielle was targeted.

Updated 12/14/09 – Police still don’t have a suspect or at least they haven’t named one. One thing I found extremely scary was that while doing research this morning and perusing some of my news sources one of the local Georgia news sites made a statement something along the lines of “residents are worried about a possible serial killer in their midst”. Serial killer? What? Maybe they have more information that’s not been released to the media but there is nothing about the case so far that would indicate a serial killer.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s always possible, but I think that needlessly scaring people is just stupid. Danielle wasn’t sexually assaulted (at least police are saying that’s the case) and law enforcement so far are saying it’s an isolated incident. Seems more like someone who was angry with her. Perhaps a spurned lover or some creep she blew off than anything else.

The last day that Danielle logged into her MySpace account was Monday, the days she was most likely murdered. Her mood was “adventurous”. The page is set to private anyway so I really see no reason to link to it here.

Updated 12/23/09 – Police in Statesboro announced yesterday that 17-Year-Old Daryl Anthony Priestly, also from McDonough, has been arrested and charged with murder in the case. Since the investigation is still ongoing they aren’t releasing much more information.
